The Centre for Enterprise and Innovation, or Hope Street Xchange as it is now called, is a building mixing University and business tenants, providing an incubator space for innovation and collaboration right at the interface between the University and the City centre. The building contains a range of use types, including teaching facilities, laboratories, catering facilities and offices for external lease, which required a variety of different stakeholders with contrasting requirements to be satisfied.
Identity Consult led and delivered this complex project which included; Local Growth Fund fixed spending milestones, funding requirements dictated by ERDF, land acquisition issues, setting high level BIM deliverables, alongside the challenges of working on a listed building.
Identity Consult acted in the capacity of Project Manager, Employer’s Agent and Cost Manager. Identity Consult also defined University of Sunderland’s BIM strategy on the back of experiences on this project, where BIM Level 1 was used.
The project was delivered under budget despite the challenging timescales and risks.
The timescales included; three months from project start to ITT, two more months to submit a detailed Planning Application, coupled with the original site developer going into administration before finishing their agreed works and completing the exchange with the University.
