Identity Consult were appointed in May 2018 to deliver Project Management, Cost management and contract administrator services for refurbishment of a former Primary School in order to provide alternative provision facilities for 11-18 year old students. The project itself was supported with Department for Education grant funding and involved financial appraisal and technical validation of more than one school option prior to funding being secured. The design team (Space Architects, JH Partners and BGP Consulting) were appointed directly to Identity Consult during the works under a JCT traditional contract.
During the final stages of tender there was a fundamental shift in the management of alternative provision services across the whole Borough. This resulted in a revised design for the school to remove any provision for primary level students and to ensure this new building was suitable for the school to decant into completely; rather than for it to provide just a secondary base for operations. A number of changes to the scheme then followed during the construction period to ensure the facilities were fit for purpose.
The school facilities include an all-weather multi-use games area, science laboratory, food technology space, calm room, and the building is technically designed to meet future accessibility requirements.
The team at Identity provided an excellent all round service to the Council from the feasibility stage right up until practical completion. The project grew from £800,000 to £1.6m and was greatly assisted with Identity seeking funds via the Department for Education through adapted business cases. Identity provided efficient project management and cost consultancy services throughout the lifetime of the major refurbishment contract. Their support and experience allowed a complex project to run smoothly and to the satisfaction of the end user. I would have no hesitation in recommending Identity to other organisations and we intend to continue using their services on future projects.
