Description

Lancaster University are using a large greenfield site on their Bailrigg Campus to create a Health & Innovation campus which will improve and expand on the current academic offer, and integrate NHS and businesses as part of the masterplan.

The masterplan is set out in four phases and Identity Consult have been appointed as Project Managers, BIM Leader and Information Manager on Phase 1, which is also Lancaster University’s second BIM Level 2 project, run in parallel with the Management School.

The services, which are being delivered cohesively by Identity Consult, enabled a strong control over information exchanges over Viewpoint, the chosen Common Data Environment, and model assurance which was tailored to the overall design progress and challenges.

A high level of model quality has been achieved as the first phase is being delivered on site in spite of the use of different modelling software across the team (Revit and AECOsim). Added complications that Identity Consult managed included; belated agreement of the requirements, in particular the Asset Information which was developed in collaboration with the Facilities Management team, and different levels of skill and experience across the team.

A particular challenging aspect of this project has been the funding constraints which have dictating both procurement decisions and programme, which have all been successfully managed and enabled a Build Contract to be signed and the project coming in within budget.
