Description

The Lancaster University Management School (LUMS) is ranked amongst the top 100 business schools worldwide and highly ranked across all major activities covering Undergraduate, MBA, Masters and PhD programmes as well as Research and Executive Education. The University wishes to build on the Management School’s international standing by creating a world-class teaching and research environment to cater for the future needs of its students, staff and business partners.

The Management School redevelopment is intended to be delivered as a two phase solution that enables a partial decant to new facilities, freeing this accommodation up for demolition and enabling the construction of phase 2.

Identity Consult are Project Managers for the full scheme, which has gone through several iterations of delivery strategies to align the programme, procurement and management according to a number of constraints such as:

  • Phasing to allow minimal disruption to the continuous operation of the Management School;
  • Procurement strategy defined according to the high level of risks with existing buildings, but also market conditions;
  • Risk Management on a complex project.

Lancaster University have decided to deliver LUMS as their first BIM Level 2 project, they appointed Identity Consult as the first consultants in order to define the Employer’s Information Requirements, including robust Asset Information Requirements which included COBie outputs, ahead of the design team’s appointment. Identity Consult further supported the evaluation of the RIBA competition before being formally appointed as BIM Leader and Information Manager to support the BIM delivery for the rest of the project.
