Work has now commenced on the renovation and refurbishment of Acklam Hall, Middlesbrough’s only Grade 1 listed building.

Identity Consult is undertaking Project Management and Quantity Surveying duties on behalf of Developer, Acklam Hall Ltd, to help restore the building to its former glories.

Built by William Hustler between 1680-83 as a family residence the Hall remained in the Hustler family until it passed to the Middlesbrough Corporation in the early 19th century (pictured above).

For the remainder of the 19th century the Hall was used for education purposes housing establishments such as King’s Manor School and most recently Middlesbrough College until they vacated in 2010.

The renovation is to include a destination restaurant / wedding venue and business centre making the most of the magnificent main staircase carved with spirals and helixes, the rose window at the top of the staircase and ornate plaster ceilings found throughout the ground and first floors.

Mark Doherty, Director at Identity Consult commented: ‘We are delighted to be involved with the renovation of Acklam Hall and look forward to working with Acklam Hall Ltd and the specialist supply chain required to bring a building of this type back into use.’
